When can I void a citation?
|
If necessary, you can "Void" a TraCS citation.
-
Only a citation in the "Issued" status can be voided (Citations that are in an "Open" or "Validated" status can be deleted.)
-
Only "Void" a citation if you have not handed the Defendant ANY copies of the citation or if you’ve collected back ALL Defendant copies
-
An "Issued" citation should NOT be voided if
- The defendant still has any copies
- The Court has a copy (physically or electronically filed)
- The "Issued" citation has been End-Shifted to the Repository
(If any of the above situations exist, a request for dismissal must be submitted the Court)
-
Once a citation has been "Voided" the status cannot be changed. If it needs re-issued, you can "Replicate" the citation,
correct any information as needed in the new citation, and re-enter the offense information
-
The Court Copy for a "Voided" citation cannot be printed
-
Any other copies of the "Voided" citation that are printed will show VOIDED in the footer instead of a bar code
-
You can End Shift "Voided" citations. They will go into the TraCS repository but will not be forwarded electronically to Court
(Example: You cite a driver for "AS28.22.019: Proof Of Insurance To Be Carried And Exhibited On Demand (Correctable)" and
print the citation. It is now in an Issued status. You approach the vehicle to hand the driver the citation and they produce their proof
of insurance. You KEEP ALL copies of the citation. You can Void the citation in TraCS when you return to your vehicle because the Defendant
has no copies and then you can End Shift the voided citation. Voided citations will be sent to the TraCS repository but will not be
electronically transmitted to Court.)
